Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

An Overview

Over time as the skin loses its elasticity with age, pregnancy and breast feeding, the shape and firmness of the breast is lost and the breasts often begin to sag (ptosis). A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that lifts and reshapes the breasts to improve their appearance. No breast tissue is removed, so you will remain the same size. A breast lift can also reduce the size of the areola (the dark skin around the nipple). It is important to discuss your expectations with your surgeon at the time of your initial consultation.

Best Candidates for a Breast Lift

Typically, women who’ve lost a significant amount of weight, or have had children are candidates for mastopexy. Those who are most suited to mastopexy are healthy, emotionally stable women with realistic expectations. Breasts of all sizes can be lifted, but the results may not last as long with heavy breasts. If you are planning to have more children, it may be a good idea to postpone your breast lift, as a further pregnancy is likely to stretch your breasts and reduce their size further. Breast lift does not interfere with breast feeding.

Initial Consultation

It is very important in your initial consultation to discuss your desired size, shape and your expectations fully. During your consultation Dr Liew will examine, measure and photograph your breasts. He will discuss where the nipple and areola will be positioned and whether an implant is advisable (augmentation mastopexy).
